 | "Rumors" In this hilarious farce, stylish couples from upper crust New York society arrive at the home of the Deputy Mayor and his wife for their 10th wedding anniversary celebration. But the earliest guests discover the host in bed with a gunshot in his ear, the hostess missing, and a raw dinner abandoned by the cook. Panicked by the threat of a scandal their fancy façade of formal finery becomes unglued as fabrications go flying at a frantic pace in an effort to devise a clever cover up. Complications – and rumors – escalate with breakneck speed when no one can keep up with what has been told to whom about whom. “Broadway has something to cheer about again,” Clive Barnes of the New York Post wrote about the comedy after it opened in 1988 to become one of Simon’s most popular plays. “This maze of mendacity is light, frothy and fun!” The production contains some adult material and is not suggested for small children.
